Way 1. Inserting DVD to Optical Disc Drive

All Xbox consoles come with an optical drive to play physical DVDs. This makes DVD playback much simpler on these consoles.
Step 1. Install the Blu-ray Player App on your console.

In order to watch Blu-ray movies or DVD movies on your Xbox console, you first need to install the Blu-ray Player app. The Blu-ray Player app is necessary to watch your favorite movies, but keep in mind that the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition cannot play Blu-ray discs. To do so:
- Search Blu-ray Player app in Microsoft Store from Xbox Home
- Click the Blu-ray Player App icon to open Info Page
- Click Install to install the Blu-ray Player app.
Step 2. Set up Xbox console to automatically play DVDs.
Enter the settings by pressing the X button.
Select System > Settings, and then choose Disc & Bluray. You can select Disc settings or Bluray settings based on what disc you have. Deciding “Play disc automatically” will allow the console to play a DVD right away when you insert it.
Step 3. Insert a DVD into the disc drive of the console to start playing.
Make sure that your console supports the DVD. It supports only discs from the same region as other DVD players or computer drives. You can’t play foreign DVD movies on Xbox One.
You can also save time by inserting a DVD into your console before installing the Blu-ray Player App.
You can insert a Blu-ray disc or DVD into the optical drive of your console.
When it appears, select the Blu-ray Player App.
Select Install to install Blu-ray Player App from the Details page.
Your DVD should automatically start playing on Xbox One.
Way 2. Play DVD on Xbox One S All-Digital Edition without Disc Drive

Third-party assistance is required to play DVDs on the Xbox One S All Digital Edition and Series S models. They don’t have an optical disc drive, so they won’t be able to play DVDs directly. You will need to convert the DVD to digital format to watch DVDs or TV series on these Consoles.
First, digitize DVD to Xbox supported video formats:
AVI (.avi, .divx), H.264 (.mp4, .m4v, mp4v, .mov, .avi), MPEG-4 Part 2 (.mp4, .m4v, .mp4v, .mov, .avi), WMV (VC-1)
Maximum file size for MPEG-4 Part 2 and H.264 files is 4 GB
Attention: The 1TB HDD comes preloaded with Minecraft (1.12GB), Forza Horizon 3 (46.34GB – 60GB) and Sea of Thieves (22.5GB). Although the storage can hold multiple games, it is not enough. However, video games are quite different from media like movies with only a few gigs.
Gears Of War 4 has a storage capacity of 116.77GB, while Halo 5 Guardians takes up 97.53GB. To ensure a smooth gaming experience, keeping the digital versions of any DVD movie as small as possible is essential.
These two facts are why you need WinX DVD Ripper Platinum to convert DVDs to Xbox video files.

Step 3. Compress your DVD file if needed (optional)
Click the gear icon to adjust your Xbox’s bit rate and resolution; then click the Edit button. You can also remove commercials and cut unwanted parts.
Step 4. Start converting DVD to the digital version for the Xbox console
Check the Hardware Accelerator boxes located on the main interface to speed up the process. Click Browse to select the destination folder, and then click RUN to rip the DVD to your console.
Once you have done this, you can import the DVD file to Xbox One S and start playing.

There are many complaints about DVDs not working on your device. The S All-Digital Edition is unable to play DVD discs. There are many other standard problems: screen goes black, incorrect region code, unplayable disc, error code 0x80820002, etc.
Here are some reasons DVDs won’t play on consoles.
Possible Reason 1. Xbox One Can’t Play DVD Disc That is Defective or Scratched
Solution: A damaged disc, in an incorrect format, or in poor condition will not play on Xbox One and may even display error code 0x91d70000. It is possible to repair it, back up the DVD, or buy a brand new one. You can clean it with a soft, clean cloth if it is only dirty and not damaged. Please don’t touch its top or bottom with your fingers.
Possible Reason 2. Cracked Xbox One Disc Drive Can’t Read DVDs
Solution: The DVD may play on another console but not on yours. It is necessary to replace the optical drive.
Possible Reason 3. Blu-ray Player App not Installed Correctly Causes the Error
Solution: If you cannot play certain games on Xbox One but can play Blu-ray discs and DVDs well, uninstall the Blu-ray player app and reinstall it. If you aren’t connected to the internet, it will remind you to do so.
Possible Reason 4. Region-locked For DVDs
Solution: Your console won’t recognize DVDs if they aren’t from the same region as your Blu-ray and DVDs. Each Xbox console is made for a particular Blu-ray or DVD region code. This means that the console can only play discs.
If you’re an Australian and bought a DVD in Japan, you will need to remove the region code from your Xbox One console so that it can play DVDs from another region. Some DVDs, especially new DVD movies, are protected by special protections that the Blu-ray player app does not support. To fix the playback problem, it is recommended to convert DVDs to digital files in a format that Xbox One supports.
Solutions: WinX DVD Ripper Platinum can be used to convert copy-protected DVDs into region-free, DRM-free DVDs for Xbox One or other consoles.

No. The console can only play Blu-ray discs and DVDs that are sold in the same region, as well as those that are not region-encoded or are coded to all regions. If it is sold in region 1, then it will not be able to play region 2 DVDs.
Can The Original Xbox Play DVDs?
Yes, but you might be able to find a discounted Xbox DVD playback kit – remote control and receiver – online.
Why Xbox One plays Bluray But Not DVD?
It’s possible that the drive’s hardware is to blame. After all, the device has two lasers built into it – one for reading DVDs and CDs, and another for Blu-rays. So it’s possible that the laser responsible for reading DVD discs has failed.
Conclusion
With the free Blu-ray Player, users can easily play their favorite DVDs on the console without further ado. However, if your Xbox Console is not playing your favorite DVDs, you need to narrow down the reason for the failure first. Then, fix the issue and get back to enjoying your favorite movies!
