How To Recover Old Xbox Account
1) First, go to the Google Play Store or the Apple Store and download the Xbox One Smartglass app. Connect your mobile device to the same wireless network as your Xbox One and log in with the same account. From your Xbox, go to “Sign out” and then “Forget this device.” In this manner, until someone else uses your account, it won’t be able to connect. On a PC or laptop running Windows 8/8.1, you can do the same thing with the Smartglass app.
2) When you’re finished, disconnect your hardware and wait a few minutes for it to totally disconnect (otherwise, you will have to repeat this step again).
3) Sign in with the new account you’d like to retrieve your previous account from, then sign out.
4) Go to www.xboxsupport.com/retrievepassword and input the email address connected with the lost user profile (you can make one up if there isn’t one; it must be a @hotmail address). They should send you an email with a code when you enter their email.
5) Go to https://account.microsoft.com and click “Add new user” while your old account is still signed out. Sign out using your old account and enter the code you received from Microsoft support (the email associated with this account should now be recognized as a valid one).
- This will establish a new temporary profile for you, but it will allow you to retrieve all of the games you’ve already downloaded… assuming they work! If not, instead of downloading directly from the Xbox Live Marketplace, try installing them through Games for Windows Live or Origin.
6) Return to www.xboxsupport.com/retrievepassword, sign in with your old account, and enter the Microsoft support code. Another email with a new code should be sent to you.
7) Go to https://account.microsoft.com and click “Add new user” with your new account from the previous step. Sign out with your old account after entering the second code (the email associated with this account should now be recognized as a valid one).
- Please note that you will be prompted to reset the password of the new temporary profile you have created after doing so! This way, if someone tries to get access to it, they won’t be able to sign in again without your password or the assistance of Microsoft support!
8) Return to www.xboxsupport.com/retrievepassword and enter the second code using your old account. They should send you another email with your login and password so you can retrieve all of the games you previously downloaded… if they work!
I apologize if you are still unable to play your games after all of this! You’ve lost them forever, but at the absolute least, no one else will be able to play online with your account until they obtain access through Microsoft Support (very unlikely).
